Mayor

Aurora Wells

Bio:

Aurora Wells is a seasoned accounting and tax professional based in Naples, Florida and Jackson County, Tennessee. She founded and operated an accounting, consulting, and tax preparation firm she established in 1997 to serve nonprofit and for‑profit clients in Southwest Florida for almost three decades. Wells holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Miami. Her focus in college was accounting and music. Although music became her hobby over the years, she still stays involved through her service at the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church. In 2012, she earned her designation as an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service, a credential that authorized her to represent U.S. taxpayers from around the world in IRS tax court. Her experience in tax preparation and tax planning over the years has served countless organizations and individuals through sometimes tough analysis, growth, and positive change. Throughout her career, Aurora has served in financial oversight roles for various nonprofit organizations including the Naples Zoo, Inc., St. Vincent de Paul of Collier County, Naples Therapeutic Riding Center, and the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Southwest Florida among many others. In more recent years, she has taken on executive nonprofit finance roles such as Chief Financial Officer for The Housing Alliance, Inc. and affiliated organizations in Florida. Aurora moved back to Gainesboro, TN after having grown up here as a child. She travels back and forth from Florida to attend to her work there while becoming more and more involved in the community she now calls home in Tennessee. Aurora is particularly passionate about leveraging her financial expertise to support nonprofits, local political organizations, and initiatives addressing affordable housing, senior citizen well‑being, human services for communities in need, and other services for underserved rural communities in Tennessee such as access to technology and online resources to engage everyone’s voice in community.

Janet Dudney Meadows

Bio:

For more than 50 years, education has been the center of my life.

I am a proud graduate of Jackson County High School and a lifelong educator who has dedicated my career to serving the children and families of Jackson County. I earned three degrees from Tennessee Technological University: a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Arts, and an Education Specialist degree.

Over the years, I have taught in nearly every school in Jackson County, including Gainesboro Elementary, Jackson County Middle School, Jackson County High School, Dodson’s Branch Elementary, and Flynn’s Lick Elementary. I have served as both an elementary and high school teacher, helping students grow and succeed at every stage of their education.

My experience extends beyond the classroom. I worked with the Tennessee Department of Education evaluating teachers across Tennessee, from Memphis to Johnson City, and also worked with Tennessee Technological University evaluating student teachers preparing to enter the profession.

I have also served as Attendance Supervisor in Jackson County, Title I Administrator in Nashville, and Interim Director of Schools in Overton County.

Education is a family tradition for me. My mother, Bonnie, was a teacher at Pacific School on Roaring River. My daughter-in-law, Pam, teaches in Jackson County today. Both of my children graduated from Jackson County High School, and all five of my grandchildren did as well.

One of those grandchildren, Kaitlyn, taught at Gainesboro Elementary before her tragic passing on her way to school. Her legacy continues through Kaitlyn’s Closet, which provides free school supplies to students in need.

Today, I am blessed to have great-grandchildren attending Jackson County schools. Like many families across our county, I care deeply about the future of our schools because my family is part of them every day.

I am proud of our teachers, our staff, and our students. Despite having fewer resources than many larger districts, Jackson County schools continue to achieve and succeed because of the dedication of the people who serve our children.

I still believe there is value in experience, common sense, and listening to others. I am committed to supporting our teachers, helping students succeed, and ensuring that Jackson County schools remain a source of pride for generations to come.
